Road to My End of the Decade List - Movie #52
A really solid time, but not much else. Eddie Murphy was really good (though I'm not sure if he deserves the awards buzz he's been getting a little bit of). I really appreciated how it portrayed the time and place. It functioned as an ode to black artists, especially in the '70s, which is a topic that obviously isn't touched on often enough. I also really liked that it felt like a pretty standard biopic except in its R-rating. Leaving out things like language from a movie like this would have completely missed the point, so I'm glad they made the right decision. Overall, it's a fun movie, with worthy and interesting themes, but also felt somewhat generic a lot of the time.
