Road to My End of the Decade List - Movie #69
"Fuck off, Hitler!"
Yep, I adored this. Pleasantly surprised to say it's my new favorite movie from Taika. It's hilarious, smart, whimsical, heartfelt, and tragic. It's a loving ode to childhood, friendship, and love, not to mention an unforgiving indictment of fascism and hate. One of the most overwhelmingly moving films of the year and one that made my heart feel so full that it nearly overflowed in the form of tears. Roman Griffin Davis is fantastic as the titular child protagonist and Thomasin McKenzie really stands out as well. It's always compelling, always visually striking, and, in the end, truly beautiful. I can't recommend it enough.
