Big Trouble in Little China

Big Trouble in Little China ★★★★½

Pulpy east-meets-west action comedy perfection led by iconic, clueless meathead hero Jack Burton (Kurt Russell sending up every white saviour narrative; dragged into a world he can’t begin to comprehend). Carpenter at the top of his game both visually and tonally and providing a typically fantastic score that compliments Dean Cundy’s tactile cinematography. The movie never feels like it patronises it’s Asian subject matter with Dennis Dun and James Hong in lead roles contrasting Russell’s bumbling Burton.
