Alastair’s review published on Letterboxd:
Hellbound’s gripping apocalypse, gloomy nihilism and satirical side-eye at post lockdown paranoia is all beautifully acted and expertly helmed by Train To Busan/Psychokenesis Director Yeon Sang-ho. The choice to then have the central paranormal event play out with such bafflingly silly looking demons - poorly rendered and often taking place in harsh daylight - is so utterly strange as to remove all sense of terror from the dragging to hell scenes. The lumpen, smokey hulks are so remarkably stupid looking that it boggles the mind that the concept, design and choice to visualise entirely in CGI ever made it to screen. Rarely does a choice this poor come about, so as to sour the heavy lifting done by the roundly excellent performances and direction.
