Charming and innocent, maybe a bit too innocent for  my taste. Even though it is a movie mostly for children, i think it relies too much on slap-stick humour which falls flat most of the time. What stands out for me in this movie is the camerawork and directing which is exciting and nuanced which helps the pacing and overall enjoyment. I’ve heard the second one is very good so I’ll be watching it soon.

This movie is incredibly violent, almost to the point of absurdity. I feel grose and filthy after watching this, but it delivers in all the way a revenge movie should. «Gaze into the abyss and the abyss gazes back to you». That is exactly what this movie is about. How revenge turns good men into monsters, and no matter what you do, you can’t get the satisfaction you imagine, cause some people are incorruptable and can’t change nor dealt with. Only cause misery and pain for others.

At it’s core, it is a character study of a man abandoned by society descending into darkness. Other than some pacing issues and rip off scenes from taxi driver, this is a great film. I might downgrade it in the future, but for now it is a 9/10 and we can thank Joaquin Phoenix’s amazing performance for that

This is an interesting experience for me to rewatch this movie, as I was only 15 years old when I first watched it, at the time I rated it 7/10. I rewatched it now, 5 years later and I must admit I was too young to see the brilliance. It's not a movie that is easily to connect with on a personal level, but it is genius as a dark comedy. A drunk soviet leader, a mad general, a fascist…
