TheMovieVampire’s review published on Letterboxd:
I first saw this anime on DVD on something of a whim late in 2007 while trying to cram in as many movies from the year in by year’s end. The movies was a lot better than I expected it to be and I later learned it was the latest (and it turns out final) film from a legendary anime creator named Satoshi Kon. Coming back to the movie after having seen the rest of Kon’s filmography I still like it quite a bit. Thing is, this movie has a really confusing storyline, the viewer is thrown right into the deep end at the beginning and it’s really hard to swim out. Still, you sort of catch up eventually, and even if you don’t the amazing visuals more than make up for it. There are images here that are hypnotic and twisted, a real roller-coaster ride at times and it ends up being a very good film overall.
