Emma. ★★½

It's worth going back and watching Ang Lee's direction of Emma Thompson's script for Sense and Sensibility to see how refreshing it was to have modern eyes on a period novel that doesn't sacrifice the novel's intent. This version of the Jane Austen classic novel is overly mannered, in some cases badly cast and where the cast is good (most of the female actors plus Bill Nighy) they get lost in a need to show directorial flourish. A missed opportunity to bring something new to the Austen table.
