This takes a little too long before it decides it wants to be a Spider-Man movie instead of a poorly written and awkwardly executed teen comedy. Mysterio’s projections and the web swinging provide some of the best action in the character’s time on the big screen, but the film has a lot of pretty bad scenes lying before that. I’m also ready for Spider-Man to be unhitched from the Ironman wagon. It’s a relationship that provides a decent character arc in this film, but hopefully is an element that has run its course. It’s time for Spider-Man to be his own hero free from MCU mentors and it’s time that Peter Parker is his own character unshackled from an overbearing ensemble of classmates who distract from genuine growth in favor of irritating attempts at humor.
