It's a big ol mess, but I still love this weird fucking thing.
Watched the Extended Cut directed by Alan Smithee (lmao) and they really go hard on the novel's deep lore. Maybe too hard? Like I get it, it's a massive book and without context the movie can be confusing, but the constant narration is both a bit much and not enough at the same time. It's an interesting version of the movie, that's for sure.
Both the theatrical and extended cuts are batshit and you really can't go "wrong" with either one. Still baffling that we ever got a David Lynch Blockbuster, but tbh I'm glad we did.
