"Will I ever be lovable again?"

Holy fuck. Ambitious, audacious, tragic, ridiculous, dreamy, disturbing, hilarious, energetic, all of the adjectives and more. I love Leos Carax and his English language debut did not let me down. An epic rock opera about two people who love each other enough to hate each other, seeing their own daughter as little more than a puppet to be used for whatever they need her to be. Might have some more detailed thoughts some other time, but this is everything I love about Carax's work: bold, inventive and playfully transparent in how it pulls back the curtain and acknowledges itself as its artist's utterly singular vision.
