Jojo Rabbit

Jojo Rabbit ★★½

"Stop offering me damn cigarettes! I'm 10!"

Sadly, I'm on the train of people that thinks Jojo Rabbit doesn't work. Though the cast is suburb with Thomasin McKenzie and Scarlett Johansson being standouts, past the film's opening act, I could only find so much to appreciate when the film's bothersome elements were so much more apperent. What starts as really funny, only becomes a little funny to not funny at all, and what starts as heartfelt and sentimental becomes ineffective and almost totally insincere. There's one pivotal moment that really bugged me as well and the following scenes to the films closing is the film at its worst. It's also unfortunate when this is the point in the film where it screams from the mountain tops about what it believes in, but I can't hear anything i haven't heard before.

Jojo Rabbit is confused on if it wants to be a satire on how hateful groups prey upon vaunerable youth, or a sentimental piece on how love can be the leading foundation on becoming better people. It's a film at constant war with itself and soon becomes as naive as a child with a hand grenade. Just was not for me.
