More gore, more sadism, and more terror than the first.
Also more nonsensical, more ridiculous, more surreal and ultimately way more pointless than the original. I'm disappointed by the change in characterization of Leatherface and of his role in the action. In the first film, he was a product of his family and a pitiable character-- in this film he's a laughably maniacal figure that goes from being a bumbling and ineffectual but formidable villain into a nearly slapstick mockery of his former self.
There are some truly disturbing things in this film, though.
8th film of Hooptober: 2.5/5 stars
