Gone Girl

Gone Girl ★★★★

Performances: 6.5/10
Story: 8.7/10
Production: 8.6/10
Overall: 7.93/10

Prior to watching Gone Girl, if you told me that Tyler Perry would put up the standout performance of the film I would have told you that you were an idiot. That's the way it goes though. With such a winding, intriguing narrative and filmed in such a surgical style, the only part of Gone Girl I can take any issue with are the performances. It just seemed that Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike acted down to the level of everyone else. Much worse than their own high potential anyway.

Aside from that though it really is a beautiful film. David Fincher (whom I've never really loved) is truly a master behind the camera. His editing is top notch and overall tone of the film comes off flawless. Coupled with Trent Reznor's haunting score it makes the film stick to your gut like nothing else this year. The story is a puzzle in the best way possible. I don't think I'm spoiling anything when I say that there are twists all over the place, and they're not necessarily reserved for the end.

Pieced together, Gone Girl is really something to behold. Clocking in at nearly two and a half hours it's definitely a marathon but when you finally reach the finish line I think most will agree that it was absolutely worth it.
