Just to get it out of the way, I will say that Captain Marvel struggles the typical Marvel (or just blockbuster) issue of cringey exposition and a very familiar structure.
Having said that, I had SUCH a blast. It really finds its' footing in the second act - and gives Brie Larson her deserved room to shine...Short Term 12 warriors lemme hear you - and then delivers probably one of my favorite third acts in the entire MCU. It was funny without being in your face about it (we're looking at you, Age of Ultron), focused on a genuine, complicated core group of characters, and sent chills through my body with its messages of empowerment. Messages that I knew would be there, given that this is Marvel's first solo female outing, but still kind of knocked the wind out of me.
And come on, that soundtrack! What an amazing experience and an amazing start to this next generation of the MCU.
