I hate LA. All they do is snort coke and talk.
When Paul Thomas Anderson met Altman, he supposedly said to him, "All I'm doing is ripping you off". Now I could clearly see where Magnolia got a lot of its inspiration.
There are so many hilarious scenes in this film to choose from, such as Jennifer Jason Leigh's phone-sex conversations or drunk Julianne Moore in clown makeup. I lost my shit when one of the fishermen made a joke about having a portable cellular phone or something - boy we have come a long way, haven't we?
Robert Altman juggles more than 20 characters and make them all seem so interesting and well-rounded. It's his magic that makes Short Cut immensely compelling and flowing that the three hours goes by so fast. Criterion Collection, I can't thank you enough for this masterpiece.
