4-Color to 35-Millimeter: The Great Superhero Movie Rewatch - The Calm After the Storm

Move over, Maguire, you're now tied for second place in my ranking of Spider-Man movies. It's going to be hard for anything to move into first, dislodging Into the Spider-Verse, but this came close to toppling Spider-Man 2 from second place. I think I'd need to watch them both back to back to finally decide which is 2nd and which is 3rd. I haven't been excited by super-hero movies in the theater much lately, but Spidey is my jam, so I went to see this using AMC A-List, and I'm absolutely glad I saw it in the theater. It may not have been IMAX or 3-D, but it was definitely worth the big screen experience. Gyllenhall's Mysterio was amazing and it's easy to see how Peter felt the way he felt. One of the issues I had with Homecoming, not being able to follow the action, was corrected here, even though the fight sequences were possibly even more frenetic. I think part of that had to do with the lighting, and actually being able to see the action. The interactions between Fury and Peter were a bit much, and actually felt a little out of character with other Fury scenes.
