The most depressing comfort film ever? Wes Anderson’s film takes place in a quirky fantasy reality and he populates it with caricatures that are as eccentric as they are undeniably human. The Royal Tenenbaums juggles comic humor and heavy material and mixes dark themes with a vibrant color palette to create something that is so absurd, and yet so engaging and heartfelt.
