Who’s cuttin’ onions oh my dear god.

Upon rewatch, the tension, pacing, and acting is still pretty great. What felt scarier the second time around are the moments of being trapped and climbing across crevices, while the monsters themselves are overused to diminishing returns. Maybe it's my love for the Blair Witch Project showing, but a paranoia/psychological horror approach vs. a creature-based approach would've been much more frightening.

A really intimate and poetic slice of life of an population that I’ve never given much thought about. The moments and stories with real vandwellers were the highlights along with a very authentic central performance by Frances McDormand. I really hoped for either more about this world and the characters were like, or the world having an effect on McDormand’s character’s journey but ultimately it sat kind of in the middle and didn’t commit to either. This left me really wanting more.

Edgar Wright's technical innovation and inventiveness is on show once again here (particularly in the first half). Some of the edits in the first hour and cinematography are top notch (getting Chan Wook Park's DP will get you that). The turning point for me was when the visual effects take over and takes it into a much less scary territory and ultimate the story feels a little hollow.
