"Because I've seen great movies...I can't tolerate anything less."
One of those "essential art house" movies I've always put off seeing. I thought the hype around this would lead to disappointment, but holy fuck, what a movie. A funny, challenging depiction of an artist in personal and creative crisis. It's remarkable that Fellini was able to create something so layered and complex, and yet so joyously entertaining. Surprisingly heartfelt. Fellini utilizes sentimentality and nostalgia in a way that is honest and artistically daring.
