Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange ★★★★

When the end credits rolled in Doc Strange, I felt satisfied, yet begging for more. Benedict Cumberbatch slides naturally into the MCU like Cinderella's foot glides into the glass slipper. I questioned his casting, but I was proved wrong.

Ever met a non-arrogant surgeon? There's zero need for bedside manner. They're there to do one job: Save Your Life! Dr Stephen Strange is as arrogant as they come. He's not the most likable fella, so it's fun to watch his character develop into a reluctant flawed superhero.

Does Stephen Strange remind you of Tony Stark? The arrogance? The similar sense of humor? The things they wear on their chest? The same girl problems? The black sidekick? I can't wait until these two meet! Will they ride or collide?

I wish I smoked drugs before I sat down to watch Doc Strange. Can you say strong acid trippy? I couldn't help but have an Inception meets scary rollercoaster meets Puff the Magic Dragon vibe. The effects are CG cool! The Hong Kong scene is pure excellence.

Doc Strange is funny in all the right ways. It features a lot of humorous one liners from Benedict, Mads and Mr Wong. Speaking of Mads. Is he a jamming villain or simply a damn fine actor just doing his thing? I'm not sure, but he's one of my favorite MCU baddies.  Is that saying much, though? I think Mr Wong is one of the biggest surprises in the MCU. His character could've easily been a one trick pony sidekick, but he brings fresh fun excitement to his role as Wong. Hmm, Wong playing Wong? I don't see anything wrong with that.

Tilda Swinton reminded me of a bald Obi-Wan. Rachel McAdams is just there to play smiling Rachel McAdams. Scott Adkins is completely wasted. Chiwetel Ejiofor's Mordo might be the most complex and interesting character in the movie whose character isn't fully developed. I'm not sure about the pace of the film. I was surprised it ended when it did. Maybe, time really does fly?

Doc Strange isn't your typical superhero movie. It feels more adult to me. I think you're really going to like it or hate it. I don't see a lot of middle ground. Hats off to Scott Derrickson. He needs to direct more comic book man movies. I dig his style. This is the best written MCU film since Iron Man. The dialogue is strong. I believe Doc Strange will only improve on rewatches. Worth your time!!

Mister Doctor!!
