The inebriated love child of Hongkong action cinema and anime, filmed like a sugar-addled fever dream, flip-flopping between ridiculous and intense, bordering on disturbing at times. In short, fun!
Killer Klowns from Outer Space 1988
Gotta respect a movie that knows exactly what it is and just executes it to a tee. Really fun, especially with a large crowd. John Vernon as Mooney is a total riot, and so is the glut of glorious late 80s practical effects.
Saw it tonight at Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco.
Color Out of Space 2019
Richard Stanley, absent from filmmaking for years on end, rushing into the studio head’s office: “I got it! Nic Cage... and H.P. Lovecraft... and freakin’ alpacas!”
This was bizarre, darkly comedic fun with some top notch Cage. I’m so happy that he’s been embracing his schlocky genre appeal in the last years with films like Mandy, Mom and Dad and now this little gem.
Watched tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco.
So endearingly sweet and full of heart. Saoirse Ronan's emotional journey is pitch-perfect and caught me completely off-guard. I'd kinda written off this film as awards bait beforehand and was more than pleasantly surprised. This will be my Sunday afternoon go-to movie with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.
Also, completed my 2015 Domhnall Gleeson quartet, yes!
