There was a time maybe a year ago when I probably would have loved this. Even now, I'm not sure it would have even been enjoyable were I not already a fan of Pedro's and familiar with almost all of his movies. It feels like, with his latest stuff, he's telling the same melodramatic stories, but playing them more and more serious each time. It's interesting because the critics seem to love it, even though I don't think this is all that less crazy than something like The Flower of My Secret or Live Flesh. And while this might technically be a better movie, it's definitely a whole lot less fun.
