Tom dePerto’s review published on Letterboxd:
Saw this in a packed theater (800 people capacity) with Leigh Whannell in attendance. He introduced the film and gave a Q&A after. He's a super nice and down-to-earth person, and I'm glad I got to meet him and chat with him a bit.
Upgrade itself is probably my favorite film out of this year's summer season if you count Infinity War and Deadpool out (I don't really consider May to be part of the summer season anyways so whatever). It's incredible what you can achieve with a low-budget, and every action setpiece in this film impressed the hell out of me. It's got some pretty wild crowd-pleasing moments too, so it was fun seeing it with a big audience.
Oh, and I finally got to ironically thank Leigh for creating the old lady from Insidious. I told him that it still haunts me, after all these years. He laughed.
