Magnolia ★★★★½

Films of this sort of multiple thread/ensemble nature are often difficult it get into; it's a difficult art introducing everyone while simultaneously giving enough to keep you hooked until the pieces start coming together. Magnolia does this with aplomb thanks to a plethora of fascinating characters all brought to life by fine performances - there are some genuine revelations to me here, especially John C Reilly. And when the pices do start to click it sets up a final hour so intense that it's almost harrowing until the rain of frogs, a fantastic, cathartic moment.
