The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs ★★★½

Here’s my ranking:
1: OLD PROSPECTOR
Loved, loved, loved it. Easily my favorite thing Tom Waits has ever done, not being a fan of his music and all. What a delightful old coot. I’ll probably watch this 5 times in the next week.
2: ZOE KAZAN ON THE OREGON TRAIL
Didn’t care for the ending, of course, but it was well earned and fit the material. Fantastic action, very endearing.
3: BUSTER SCRUGGS
Always fun to see the Coens do something completely pointless and stupid. I really mean that. Made me laugh to beat the band.
4. WAGON TO (MAYBE) HELL
Perfectly well written and acted, just a weird one to go out on, tempo-wise. But that’s the Coens for you.
5. JAMES FRANCO’S AIMLESS ADVENTURE
Perfectly fine, just has that pithy emptiness that you find in some Coens stuff that I’m not hugely in love with. Root is amazing as always.
6. LIMBLESS ACTING GUY
I know this is pretty true to how this sort of situation would’ve gone in reality at the time, but sheesh, what a bleak little parable.
