Mostly watched this cus of the cover.

Cool 70s Russian sci fi atmosphere. Dig the hypnotic synth score. The mystery is intriguing but lost steam towards the end. Writing is decent but thinks it’s philosophical ideas are a lot deeper than they are. Some interesting characters and shots tho.

    Cool dog!

Played a drinking game where you drink every time the protag does and got kinda silly so I didn’t really engage with it as much as I wanted to. The fact the director wasn’t Australian was a buzz kill though…

I was smiling my ass off each second.

Captures every emotion found in young love with so much competence and a dab of surrealism. The dialogue is clever and each performance is killer. For a film that emulates confused love, i’m glad it’s structured around scattered moments rather than PTAs usual climactic build. Each scene is so fleeting and mimics the blurry rush of remembering a relationship so well. Gotta be one of the most technically advanced coming of age movies too.

My second fav PTA after Phantom Thread.

I highly recommend reading it not just because there are some differences (like Tony being a more prominent character and a dream sequence) but because the writing is so dense and you have to sit with it. These characters really dominate each other in conversation with some saying a fuck ton and some saying very little in a scene. Reading it helped me fathom everything Mabel is…
