I think there's something to be said about how real Tan was, not only with the film in question, but with herself and her life choices in this. On the one hand, yes, we have the eponymous unfinished film with it enigmatic director as the intrigue. But what really seals the deal here is how far Tan is will to go to solve the mysteries on the outside and within herself. Couple all of this with Tan's hypnotic filmmaking here, even if in documentary format. It just felt like a journey that you didn't want to end.
I'll just say right now: I'd love to see a finished edit of the real SHIRKERS one day. Good on Netflix for picking this one up.
