The Docks of New York

The Docks of New York ★★★★

Here's another example of the Silent cinema reaching its zenith just before the advent of the talkie revolution and one of a handful of movies Josef von Sternberg made in America before his trip to Germany and the 'discovery' of Marlene Dietrich.

The shadows and fog of this waterfront-set drama focusing on the events of a single day are captured artistically by Jo's camera.

What more would you expect from such a visual perfectionist?!
