My 👨👩👧👦 tells me I would enjoy 🎞s more if I turned off my 🧠. But I ❤️ 💩ing on 🎞s and praising 🎞s, so...
A sub genre of horror that has always scared me is body horror. Whether it is this, District 9, Martyrs, or Clown the thought of your body slowly and painfully mutating or something taking over your body with no way to stop it other than commit suicide is terrifying to me. Combined with the idea of inadvertently mutilating yourself... forget about it.
Needless to say, this movie really fucks with me and I love it. And wow does the makeup hold up!
There are things I like and appreciate:
The majority of the effects.
The themes and how they’re explored.
The creature designs.
The bear was genuinely unsettling.
The Alien cloud was fucking gorgeous.
The visual style. I’ve heard some people say that it’s ugly but I don’t think so.
The sound design.
The concept is cool.
I like how the alien was trying to create as opposed to destroy.
The things that hold…
Birds of Prey used to be the worst movie I saw in 2020. It took me three sittings to finish this movie, and throughout each sitting, I wanted to die. This was so cheesy, cliché, and unsubtle! And I know that subtlety isn’t Spike Lee’s style, but I found that the lack of subtlety made the conveyance of the messages incredibly overbearing.
- Fists in—They did this so many goddamn times, too.
- Melodramatic score—Part of the score was…
My favorite movie. Why? It made me want to pursue a career as a screenwriter.
A hell of a cast.
All the actors fit their roles really well!
Hilarious dark humor.
A groundbreaking narrative structure.
Supremely interesting characters.
Great chemistry between the characters.
A catchy soundtrack.
Amazing direction, especially for a second movie. Tarantino’s second film and he managed a big cast very well.
Plenty of suspense.
And, of course, insanely quotable dialogue.
