Okay, on a rewatch, I've got some more concrete thoughts. The first twenty or so minutes of this movie don't work. Its not that I don't like some moments within them, its just that as a whole, something feels off, and I'm not 100% sure what that is. Perhaps it the ever-confusing political situation, or the terrible Marvelesque humor, but they just don't work. Somewhere around the time that Finn and Rose are explaining their plan to Poe though, the movie starts working for me by and large. Sure, its not perfect from here. The humor is still bad, the pacing still feels off, and its a little disappointing to not learn anything new about Snoke. I hope we get some answers on that front in Episode 9, because if not, the trilogy will need a bit of a reappraisal. But overall, over to hours of this movie work really well for me. The action is great, the characters are endearing, and there are a lot of great moral lessons to be learned here. Overall, it falls in line with its predecessor as being an exhilarating, but flawed entry into the series.
