Rocky Ibarra’s review published on Letterboxd:
Robert De Niro reprises his role as Dick from Dirty Grandpa and Michael from The Deer Hunter, two characters in the modern classic The War with Grandpa. See it now.
Okay, the real review now.
The War with Grandpa luckily landed on the 'awful' label so it gets a 1.5. That might be a little high but everything 3 below is a mess for me, i and I'm not going to lie that I enjoyed parts of it, like De Niro's always on the verge of swearing, how is that not funny? Probably the biggest flaw of this film is the rather cheesy drama than dramatic drama, didn't affect me at all. If I'm being completely honest, the majority of The War with Grandpa could be the actual war because they're the most fun parts and I cannot even connect with the characters, now that's a major flaw. Kids were annoying, other family members except De Niro were sadly weak. Bit biased right there, he's one of my favorite actors, but this one's still embarrassing especially after delivering a great performance in The Irishman let's get that straight.
