    Broker

I had heard that Broker was perhaps a low point in Hirokazu Kore-eda's filmography, and for sure, it's more overtly sentimental than and doesn't stick the landing like his previous two films that I've seen, Shoplifters and Monster.

    The Northman

    ★★★

Before I get into my review, I just want to make it clear that above all else, I desperately hope that The Northman succeeds at the box office. This is the type of ambitious, mid-budget passion project that is becoming increasingly rare in the current cinema landscape, so even though, as you’ll find out, I wasn’t crazy about this movie, please, if you have even an inkling of interest, go see the film and decide for yourself. The only way we’re…
