    This is an intense film, that feels close to reality. I think we can learn something from it, and its authenticity may have to do with it.

    Don't shout at people. Don't try to control them. Don't do things without their consent. And don't stigmatize them or call them crazy.

    Be kind, compassionate and genuinely caring. So many of these stressful situations we see in this movie can be prevented that way.

    There are very few films I consider to be on the same level as Masaki Kobayashi's Ningen no Jôken trilogy and Béla Tarr's Sátántangó. Yoshishige Yoshida's Eros + Massacre is on that plane.

    This might be the most refined Japanese film ever brought to celluloid. It effortlessly meanders through a more than three-and-a-half hour maze consisting of infinite layers of reality, meta-reality and subtlety, captured with the best cinematography I have ever seen in a black-and-white movie.
