Buffalo '66

Buffalo '66 ★★★★½

"You made them kiss your ass back there!"

"[people] feel that I’m probably playing myself in the film. What I’m actually playing is, I’m playing my father or what I would have become if I let my father’s heavy impact stay in my life. And what I play in the last five minutes of the film is me on a really good day.”

There's no defeat greater than bringing a visitor onto your home turf, and wondering what weakness, what deficit you possess that makes you unable to succeed in what should be the most welcome of environments.

I'm always struck how every exchange, every moment, has such emotional clarity. Almost every word out of Billy Brown's mouth explains an insecurity or a shortcoming without ever feeling like forced exposition.

Buying more and more into Gallo's description of the film as a musical.
