Owen’s review published on Letterboxd:
a vivacious portrait of love, life, and the pursuit of happiness. every scene of Andrea Arnold's American Honey drips with the sunshine it soaks in, beautifully portraying the quest for the American Dream with uttermost care and soul poured directly into its center. it's a film about finding love in a hopeless place, as accentuated by the Rihanna song that acts as a significant piece of the film's architecture. this is how to make a road trip movie, one balanced with the poverties of life and the delicacies of naïveté. American Honey is a real movie. it feels made solely from the dirt beneath our feet and the sky above our heads. and I commend it for that.
