Just watched Mark_Jenkins’ BAIT on BFI Player. Loved everything about it; the way it was filmed, the way it was edited, the use of sound and the dubbing, the score, the lot. Tourists bringing forth the end of ‘Winner stays on’ was the final straw for me.
Dark, grim and very, very funny. Big spontaneous round of applause at the screening I went to at the Electric in Birmingham, presented by Alice Lowe & Steve Oram. They've been developing these characters for a number of years, and it shows. Superb performances from both, along with the supporting cast, particularly Richard Glover as Carapod inventor Martin, and Smurf as Poppy / Banjo ;)
Special mention as well to Director Ben Wheatley's DoP Laurie Rose who makes England look magnificent.…
There was once a time, in the early 80s, where classification did not exist for home video, you could rent anything from the video shop (next to the chippy), uncut, bonkers exploitation stuff. Watching Hobo is like going back to those good old days.
Rutger Hauer plays the Hobo, drifting into Scum Town, keeping himself to himself. But events push him into taking action against the criminal family that rule the roost.
