Big Trouble in Little China

Big Trouble in Little China ★★★½

1986
John Carpenter
Kurt Russell

With "Big Trouble in Little China", John Carpenter delivered another great cooperation with Kurt Russell which is a lot of fun over the entire runtime.

Kurt Russell plays great again, but I also liked all of the other actors very much, because each of them plays with a certain lightness that fits very well with the tone and humor of the film. As is typical for Carpenter, the score is excellent again and the film has a very great visual style. Both the costumes and the set design as well as the creature design and the effects look really fantastic and make the film extremely visually appealing. The action is very well staged and a lot of fun and Carpenter's direction is generally good. Both characters and dialogue are very  well written and a whole lot of fun and it doesn't matter that the film doesn't actually have a plot, because it jumps from one great and entertaining scene to the next, so that it doesn't matter at all whether there is a plot.

"Big Trouble in Little China" was a lot of fun and I think it's one of those films that I could like even better on a rewatch.
