Just plain cool. A Metal Gear Solid folk tale. The violent chaos of vengeance and war converging with the supernatural. The characters wear a mix of tactical gear and Versace, and are nicknamed the Hyenas. Did Hollywood not get the memo that your leads don’t have to be an ugly, basic jabroni named Sam or Tyler? Hey, sorry to anyone with those names, it’s nothing personal. Just don’t be in a movie, please. It’s a simple story told smartly, without sacrificing any melodrama or pulp. Zips by at 80 minutes.

Every time a cop car got flipped I started chewing on the seat in front of me. This is how I express maximum joy. Michaelion Benonicus Bayonisus of…

This is the one where Godzilla is a googly-eyed freak with no arms. His form evolves, though, along with the movie. He pops out of the ocean pretty early, looking like a disgusting mistake that should not exist. He smashes through buildings by falling into them, and we spend lots of time back and forth with government officials trying to figure out what’s going on and if maybe they should do something about it. All conventional methods are exhausted, culminating…
