Varghese’s review published on Letterboxd:
History has taught us that a young boy in Germany in particular was reeling from the aftermath of World War I. He wanted to show the world that his Fatherland were more than mere spectators. We all know what happened next. Perhaps for the first time that man has been shown in a different light in the world of cinema. Sure, he is still a maniac but there is a cartoonishness to his personality. Played with aplomb by the director himself it's a performance for the ages. A satirical movie with plenty of laughs but also shows that war is hell and only causes destruction. Fantastic performances all around and has a couple of deeply moving scenes. This is easily the director's most moving film to date.
P.S - Loved the German versions of I Wanna Hold your Hand & Heroes!
