Girish AD recently mentioned in an interview that he's a huge Selvaraghavan fan and that his films have an influence upon his work. It makes more sense after watching Premalu which feels like the breezy romcom version of Selva's earlier films. The love triangle reminded me of Kadhal Kondaen/7G, Sachin in being the indecisive n playful, barely ambitious loser, Reenu wanting to be the girl who likes taking care of him and Aadhi as a more prudish jerk version of Anitha's…

Kinda saw the twists coming but never mind, this is still a solid art house horror drenched in folklore dabbling on themes of hegemony, caste/class divide n power struggle. The choice to have the film in monochrome adds a lot to the film's overall despair/bleak tone and gets across the feeling of being caught in a claustrophobic scenario. Felt this entirely during that fantastic opening sequence of this film which introduces Mohan and his family members. The poster campaign…

Holy fuck, that's my best fucking shot ever.

HE KNEWW, Karthik Subbaraj's most mature film till date.

Subburaj made his break through with films like Pizza & Jigarthanda. Apart from how refreshing n sleek these films were, one of the reasons why it works is how smart are they as films. In a way Subbaraj invented genre shift. Both these films begin as something but end as something else, the rug pulling was absolute magic. You are in awe of how…
