I refuse to believe I'm the only fucking guy who thinks Get Out is way too highly regarded, and that meanwhile Us is The Godfather of sophomore features. Lupita creating a new slasher villain right before our fucking eyes. That couldn't possibly be a hot take.

My wife wanted to watch this again. How could I say no? Certainly Tim Burton's best in years!

  • Grace

This just hits different now. It's never quite made clear whether the mother is herself unstable or if Grace is in fact an evil baby who is a direct ascendent from hell. Regardless, I was utterly gripped from the start. What a disturbing, depraved, demented, and horrifying glimpse into single motherhood and the trauma and body horror that goes into raising a rugrat, particularly feeding one. It certainly can get patchy during moments and certain scenes, but Grace is not to be forgotten anytime soon. Don't let the 2.6 average rating deter. I can't believe how low that is.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

I decided to start this franchise off with The Final Chapter, at the behest of many opinions stating this one is the best in the franchise. If this is the best in the franchise, then these must not be good movies. It's absolutely fun, with a handful of decent kills, but it's not terribly great filmmaking. I suppose it was never the point to make classy pictures, so I won't shit on it too much. Savini's practical work is always on point, so for that reason alone, it's worth a watch.

    Scream 2

Scream 2 takes everything great about the first film, and takes everything not that great about the first film, particularly the performances, and improves on nearly every facet the first film faltered in. So far my favorite Scream film. The inevitable reveal in the end I do believe cannot be topped from the first entry, but it was satisfying enough and still manages to be a fantastic horror whodunnit.
