Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★★★

Well goddamn that was an actual, proper film. Lots of interesting things to think about, and lots of ~emotions~

But also it feels like they've smooshed together about 3 films worth of plots and characters into 1. It gets a bit too diffuse.

What works really works, and what doesn't kinda spoils it a bit. Hardly perfect, but it's very much a step in the right direction.

It's going to take a while to figure out what the politics are and whether they're good or not. I think there was some marxist-y things going on? dialectical theses/antitheses/syntheses? idk it takes me ages to make communicable sense of this stuff. It's fantastic that there's actual stuff to think about though. It wasn't just flashy lights, 'splosions and fanservice.

Also glad there weren't so many crappy jokes, although they are still there. Most egregiously the bit where a laser blast kills a bunch of pilots and destroys a bunch of ships... and then BB8 flies through the air making a funny sound. It's inappropriate and inhumane.
