The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera ★★★½

Film #30 of Hoop-tober 6

As with most silent films of the era, and the earlier Universal Horrors, this is filled to the brim with atmosphere. The sets are just sublime and evoke that gothic vibe you'd expect. Philbin is absolutely mesmerizing every second she's on screen here and once he ditches the awful mask Chaney shines with some stellar SFX enhancing his characters monstrous traits.
