Splendor in the Grass is a coming of age story set in the 1920s about two lovers. Both of these characters are chained to the expectations and worldview of their parents and I was surprised with how relatable I found both of them. There’s a lot of themes here that are explored well. Wilma’s sexual repression and Bud’s sexual frustration, double standards or expectations, morality and growing up.
