Alita: Battle Angel ★★★★

Deeply flawed but I kind of loved it. I hated the CG face whenever it was "expressive" but when it was toned down it looked fine. The difference was so dramatic that it almost looked like two different characters--one who dropped in from a Pixar film. Why bother doing it? Why not just trust the actor to emote? For Cameron, flexing is more important than results.
The film has a bizarre, emphatic, disjointed morality (common in manga auteurs) but I just kinda had to go with it and not ask too many questions because as a hyperviolent children's film, it works. Very clean visuals, fun characters, good fights.
