My real review of this film is here and I posted it a long time ago, but tonight I saw it in 4k for its 40th Anniversary, and no matter how many times I've watched this film, it's endless magic. The only filmmaker working the kind of magic right now that Spielberg was working in his early career is Guillermo del Toro; thank the space gods somebody is, because that feeling, that earnestness, that deep sincerity, is so, so important to art. It's everything. And this movie means everything to me. We have such a deep desire for knowledge and affinity for curiosity in us. When we nurture those aspects of humankind, we are at our best: in films, in art in general, and in the grand cosmic scope of our fragile existence.
