You can't really evaluate this film properly as there is simply nothing like it that exists. It feels as though it's being beamed from an alternate universe. Barely anything about the film adheres to traditional cinematic conventions. And yet, it is an absolute joy to watch. Helped in no small part by a committed, mysterious performance from Jodorowsky, obsessively perfect film editing, and a genuinely moving score (which, despite being by three different composers, feels like one distinct voice), this film is a parable drawing from a number of inspirations about what it means to be truly "living" - a question as old as time. The film is just so engaging despite its idiosyncrasies that I have to give it 5 stars - that's a genuinely impressive accomplishment. I've just never seen anything quite like this film. Really excited for the 4K restoration that's hopefully coming out soon. (9.8/10)
