Black & white for a damn reason. Dudley and Arabella Figg together again. Only understood about 20% of each individual sentence, but the message came through loud and clear.

But how will the audience ever believe that they are very bad boy hit men if they don’t continuously spout offensive slurs through the entire movie?!??

Such a rich depiction of West African mythology punctuated with griot song and dance against a backdrop of prison politics and general tumult...it is Afrofuturism deeply rooted in tradition. Not to mention a very powerful performance by Bakary Koné.

Part City of God, part They Shoot Horses Don’t They...I wasn’t quite ready for this movie to end.

Plus you get a touch of Denis Lavant, as a treat

What a furiously fascinating dynamic. There’s a good amount of overlap with Burden of Dreams but I’m not mad about it. Love me some Herzog, but that final scene of Kinski with the butterfly is difficult to watch knowing he sexually abused his daughter for 15 years. This man should’ve been medicated, in heavy therapy, and honestly probably imprisoned for some of the chaos he wrought, but instead we have this charming documentary about a magnetic and unhinged personality. It is what it is.
