This is not necessarily a list of the 10 best films I saw for the first time in rep in 2013 (though A Borrowed Life and Man's Favorite Sport? were instant personal pantheon additions), more like stuff that stayed with me, expanded my conception of Cinema/The World, all that good grandiose stuff. Also, keep in mind that like anyone who watches too many films (a hasty Letterboxd count that doesn't take into account shorts viewed says I saw about ~320 in 2013, which is about where it normally is), I'm a bit of a sucker for novelty and I've, thankfully, logged many of the Great Undisputed Classics at least for a first time, giving me more time to dig around cinema's more marginal areas, especially when I'm broke but I'm still free (via membership) to do so at MoMA.
Biggest embarrassing gaps filled: How Green Was My Valley, Hiroshima, Mon Amour, Shampoo, The Conversation, umpteen Hawks, Beverly Hills Cop, Fatal Attraction
Renewed appreciation: Shadows, Pather Panchali, Thérèse
