A one-two punch knockout by Stallone and Renny Harlin was this box office hit adventure film. The first 10-15 minutes are so harrowing and so terrible and so terrific. It's a great hook. Then there's John Lithgow hilarious terrorist/thief with his merry band of hardasses. They try jacking a federal reserve plane mid flight and rob it. Another impressively directed action sequence by Harlin, that robbery from one plane to another plane scene. Stallone is good kicking ass. Janine Turner and Michael Rooker too. Sometimes the bad guys are so mean it's hilarious. It's a rock em sock em good time. A bonafide blockbuster.

Spanish director Fresnadillo bravely takes on the sequel for Boyle's stunning original. This time around things are getting better but soon turn to crap. Surprisingly this sequel digs deeper into its bleakness. Great cast, great zombie action. That opening on that cramped house in the country is fantastic. The cliffhanger leaves you rattled. A shame no sequel followed this one.

Sinister, dark, brutal, I fucking loved it. Alex Essoe gives a brilliant, punishing, literally, performance. Pat Healy plays another sleaze with Burt Reynolds stache and everything. The girl that played Britanny Murphy on that horrible Lifetime movie is here too. The two directors here directed the shit out of their own Hollywood story. They have vision, style and balls. The score is great also. Reminded me a bit of Mulholland Dr. Thanks Matt for the factoid.

The most ambitious film the Spierig brothers have done. And their best. They reteam with Ethan Hawke for this trippy, time travel adventure. Forget explaining anything about it. The joy is just to watch it unfold, expertly under the direction of the Spierig brothers. I wonder how they'll top this one. It's gonna be great. By the way, Sarah Snook gives one of the best performances I've seen this year in a brave, complicated and very moving acting job.
